Promoting Environmental Awareness
Originally retained to roll out the public education component for the City of Newark's very first recycling program, The Writing Company produced a citywide blitz of ads, direct mailings and special events that helped raise the local recycling rate to more than 50 percent ahead of the state-mandated time frame. In later years, The Writing Company used these same tools to help city officials raise awareness in both the residential and business communities of more complex environmental issues, including household hazardous waste, environmental business development, and waste prevention and reduction. The firm has also focused on supporting the Clean Newark initiative aimed at improving the city's appearance.
The Writing Company's work in Newark has been recognized with the Big Apple Award for Marketing Communications, the Leaders in Environmental Excellence Award for best environmental outreach program in New Jersey, and the New Jersey Advertising Club's Jersey Award for best public service announcement.
Helping the Big Apple Shine
In another important environmental awareness project, The Writing Company applied its talents across the Hudson River when it developed several major communications vehicles for the City of New York's WasteLe$$ waste reduction initiative. Our work here included creating a project logo, producing 25 newsletters for stakeholders in a variety of industries, and developing a documentary video on the WasteLe$$ program. TWC served on the project as a contractor for Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), the largest employee-owned research and engineering company in the United States.
